Unlv will be hosting a chess/games event the weekend of January25-26. Games will be chess, magic the gathering, and scrabble. Information for chess event is below.

Mind Sports International Chess tournaments

Dates: Jan 25th-Jan 26th


Saturday January 25th

Please bring sets and clocks if you have them available.  A limited number of sets and clocks will be available on site.

Location: UNLV Student Union Ballroom (3rd floor)

Tournament type: Quads

Players will be divided into groups of 4. Each player in that group will play every other member of his or her group once. The highest score in each quad will win a cash prize. In the event of two players finishing their quad with the same top score, a 3 minute blitz match will be played to determine the overall winner of that quad.

Time control: Game/45. Each player will have 45 minutes to complete all of his or her moves.  There will be no time delays added.

First round starts: 1pm. The following two rounds will begin at 2:45pm and 4:30pm, respectively.

Entry fee: $25 for weekend pass (cash only)
Family offer: $25 for 2 adults and 2 children (Under 16yrs)
Student offer: $25 by one entry get one free (2 for 1 deal). Must show student ID

Prize to each quad winner: based on number of entries.  $250 guarantee prize fund.

There will be a 1 hour lunch break from 12-1pm. The following two rounds will begin at 1pm and 3pm respectively.

There will be a chess tournament Aug 18-19 at UNLV. Time control is game 60, 4 rounds.  There will two sections, rated and unrated.  To play in the rated section, you will need at least a temporary USCF membership (three months).  Anyone is free to join the unrated section, and UNLV students will play free in whatever section they choose.  

More information to come, such as round times, but plan for play between 12:30 and 7 both Saturday and Sunday.

Chess club spring 2012

Hello chess friends

Chess club will begin again this Thursday. This semester, the club will be held once a week, on Thursday, from 6-8 to allow people who have a busy work schedule to have some time to play. There will be 10 meetings this semester:
